Infant Observation 2027 & Seminars in Psychoanalysis 2028
The Adelaide Branch (AIP) of the Australian Psychoanalytic Society is currently considering applications for psychoanalytic training commencing in 2027. Alongside the formal training program, opportunities will be available for interested psychotherapists, psychiatrists and registrars to participate in Infant Observation commencing in March 2027, with the opportunity to continue into the Theoretical seminars in Psychoanalysis commencing in 2028.
Infant Observation can be undertaken as a stand-alone segment extending over a 12-month period. For those wishing to continue their psychoanalytic learning, Infant Observation can be followed by participation in the theoretical seminar series from 2028.
Theoretical seminars in Psychoanalysis, commencing in 2028, will be delivered by videoconference, using a model developed over many years to provide access to experienced teachers in the UK, Europe and the US.
The seminars provide an overview of the main models of psychoanalytic thought and the ways in which they formulate concepts of health and psychopathology. They also examine the relationship between theory and practice and encourage critical engagement with psychoanalytic literature and contemporary developments in the field.
The seminar series typically build on each other over three or four years and take place once weekly in the evenings, broadly following the academic year. Places are limited in order to maintain a group size conducive to active participation, thoughtful discussion and shared learning.
Applications are invited from participants based in South Australia, with in-room attendance preferred in order to support active participation and the shared learning experience of the seminar group. Fees will be announced once participant numbers are confirmed.
